The Game of SEO

Hello and welcome to my brand new blog where I’ll try to explain how SEO works. I’ll do my best to discuss SEO concepts in bite size chunks so that we do not confuse each other in any way.

So let’s get started.

Are you here because you’ve come to a point when you begin to wonder what is point of doing SEO? It may look to you now, especially right now, i.e. 2014, that everybody is paying attention to search engine visibility. The major search engines, Google and Bing, must be pleased. Why? They must be pleased because they are both doing their best to please their own users as well.

So let me put it into an analogy. Let’s try to compare SEO with applying for a job. The major search engine is the employer and your website is you applying for the job.

The major search engine and the employer are both looking for the best of the best. So they both want to accommodate all applicants other than you, your competitors. However there is one big difference. In applying for a job, all interviews stop after you have been hired by the employer. With search engines, even after your website is ranked as one of the top search results, these major search engines don’t stop interviewing your website to see if it still fits as a top search result now and the next and the next after that and so on.

As an employee, all the employer does after hiring you is review your performance from time to time. As a website, the algorithm “interviews” keep on coming web page after web page, blog post after blog post, etc. That’s how tough it is - the game of SEO.

I hope all that explanation does is encourage you to get better in understanding and better in practicing SEO. Let me end this post by welcoming you and congratulating you for taking the first step to your success in marketing your website, blog, product or service online by making good use of Search Engine Optimization knowledge.
